THE DESIGN MUSEUM

I had previously never been to the Design Museum, for some reason, but 'The Future is Here' exhibition was really very good. This particular display showed was could be possible with 3D printers and how efficient they are in terms of material waste and cost. There were furniture displays, items of clothing and machinery made using 3D printers, the museum also had their own working section where laser cutters and basic 3D machinery produced objects on a regular basis for the public to appreciate. The display intelligently highlighted ways to reduce wastage, increase the use of recycled materials and the use of biodegradable materials. This indicates future ambitions which seem realistic and attainable. I personally enjoyed the items of footwear that were not made in the traditional way but still looked acceptable whilst being made in a sustainable way.

Running shoes made with one single panel of material that wraps around the shoe to reduce the number of parts and subsequently, the quantity of materials used.

Toys can made using the 3D printer in a range of materials from plastics to wood wasting less material.

Furniture can be quickly made using the 3D printer reducing the time between customer request and manufacture.
My favourite idea: Using biodegradable plastics and cotton that, after a certain amount of time, decomposes and become s a part of the environment rather than hindering it.
